The Marketplace is a large open-air shopping district separate from the residential town. When you start the game, it is mostly abandoned, with only a small corner-shop still open. Throughout the game, you can fulfill certain criteria to invite new NPC characters to the town who will take over the vacant plots to create new public services and shops.
